Jan Reiss is a photographer whose work captures the beauty, mystery, and patterns of the world around us, from the grandeur of Southern Africa’s wildlife to the quiet elegance of Mount Monadnock reflected beneath dramatic skies. A multilingual Fulbright scholar with a PhD in linguistics from MIT, Jan brings a storyteller’s eye to her compositions. Her vibrant, thoughtful images invite viewers to pause, look closer, and discover something new. Whether it’s the mirrored legs of elephants at a water hole, the distortions of reflections, or the textures hidden in everyday scenes, her photographs reveal a world that is both simple and complex.

Jan’s love for photography began during her formative years living and traveling in Europe and Africa, and her style continues to evolve. She has recently been exploring abstract and impressionistic imagery inspired by shapes, colors, and light. Jan has been exhibiting her work for more than 20 years, including in many juried shows, and her photographs are held in numerous private collections.

“As I travel through life, I seek to embrace the unexpected yet rejoice in the everyday; to admire the symmetrical yet revel in the random; to let my heart always be open to what is before me; and to appreciate to their very depths the moments when the art of the world reveals itself, taking my breath away in joy, in recognition, in connection—and to capture all that magic with the click of a shutter.”
